The new year has officially begun and there’s no better time to overhaul your beauty regimen. I want you to adopt these beauty resolutions and put your best face forward in every situation.

1. WASH YOUR FACE

Once in the morning and most definitely at night. Your face attracts dirt and bacteria during the day which if not washed away can cause breakouts and dull looking skin. If you wear makeup this is even more important as your pores need to breathe at night.

2. NO PICKING

Leave your pimples alone. Don’t poke them  or pop them. Just let them be. You can apply an acne treatment to speed up the healing process but that’s it.

Stay away from smoking, period. In addition to all the harmful effects of smoking on your health: lung cancer, emphysema, bad breath, etc, smoking will literally rob you from your pretty. Yellowing of the teeth and nails and lack luster skin are all things experienced by smokers. If you’re already a smoker, I know that quitting is hard to do. Here are some tips that may help you kick the habit.

4. NAIL IT

Nail grooming can be annoying at times but is necessary if you want a thorough beauty regimen in 2014. Keep your nails clean, filed and polished. If constant nail polish chipping is an issue for you, opt for clear nail polish or try giving yourself a gel manicure without UV light. I don’t recommend getting regular gel manicures because exposing your hands to UV rays is very harmful. But if you must, please apply sunscreen to your hands first.

5. DRINK WATER

Your body needs water to be healthy. And a healthy body is a beautiful body. So drink up at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep your skin hydrated and young from the inside out.

scrub6. BARE IT ALL

On your face that is! Wearing makeup everyday is a lifestyle choice but I recommend you take some days off when possible. Your face needs to breathe to be healthy and blemish free. So go easy on the heavy makeup, you face will thank you for it!

7. PROTECT YOUR FACE

I love bathing in the sun. It’s invigorating, full of vitamin D which is a great source of energy for your body. However, constant sun exposure has the potential to be very harmful and can lead to skin cancers and other ailments. Wearing sunscreen daily will help prevent that. To keep things simple use a moisturizer that already has SPF in it.

8. PAMPER YOUR HAIR

Contrary to popular belief hair continuously grows whether you can see it or not. The difference is in how you care for it and retain length. So be gentle and wear your hair in its natural state when possible. Avoid using heat tools and make sure your hair is hydrated by deep condition your hair weekly.

9.WASH MAKE UP BRUSHES

Your face may be clean, your makeup kept hygienically but if you apply it with dirty brushes you are taking one step forward and two steps back. Bacteria grows exponentially and thrives in moist environments like foundation brushes so wash them after every use.

10. SLEEP

They don’t call it “beauty sleep” for nothing!
