“Every woman needs something that she can wear everyday, that can be worn with comfort, that will be structured and beautiful.” – Mathieu Mirano

Born in New York, Mathieu Mirano truly embodies Frank Sinatra’s words: “If I can make it there (New York), I’ll make it anywhere.” In spite of his young age, Mirano’s designs have attracted the attention of national and international top-tier fashion publications and peeked the interest of multiple celebrities such as Nicole Ritchie, Gabrielle Union and Lady Gaga who wore custom-made Mathieu Mirano bras in her video Applause.

From its inception, 2 years ago, the Mathieu Mirano brand has married feminine silhouettes with structured tailoring. I have followed this young designer’s career from the beginning: he is intuitive, innovative, detailed oriented and is such a pleasure to talk to.“The evolution of it all is really amazing. I’m just really happy that everybody came and it’s great,” said a grateful Mirano.

For Fall / Winter 2014, Mirano returns with a collection of leather dresses, fur shawls and structured separates with the same Mirano flare.

K.E.: As a young designer, how did you find your aesthetic?

M.M.: To find your aesthetic you have to do the work and spend the time. To create these beautiful things, you have to be inspired by all the beautiful things in the world and choose the things that you like. You really have to dig deep inside and say, who am I and what am I about.

K.E: If you weren’t a designer, what would you be doing?

M.M.: I would be in the circus. I really wanted to be in Cirque du Soleil when I was a kid and a teenager and that was the career path I wanted to go on. I’ve always wanted to do something artistic and beautiful.

K.E.: Since I’m from Fashion With a Conscience, I’d love to know if you have a cause that is dear to your heart?

M.M.: Well, I have to say, there are so many causes that are wonderful but I love my animals. A lot of the leather that we use is a by-product. It comes from animals who were bred for food and we use the leather which is the excess skin.
