If you keep up with me you already know that I am revamping my life from top to bottom and embracing a healthier lifestyle. My healthy living overhaul birth from a desire to raise my energy level, have healthier hair and treat my body before it starts breaking down on me. Because of this I’ve been doing a lot of research and as a result changed my entire beauty routine to include more natural oils, products and vitamins.

As I was doing my research I stumbled upon something that I couldn’t wait to share with you. As women we all dream of long voluminous lashes and go to great lengths to get them  (no pun intendant). We purchase a slew of mascaras promising to give us incredibly long and full lashes. And then we curl, coat, curl and coat our lashes some more hoping they will look like the ones we saw in the TV commercial! What if we could get longer lashes without the use of all this gunk? Well we can find out together.

There is no way to enhance lash growth internally but there are many topical serums like Latisse which claim to enhance lash growth. But the use of those products is not without side effects so do your due diligence and make sure to consult with your dermatologist before investing in one. I’ve long contemplated using an eyelash growth serum but I never went for it. I couldn’t silence that little voice in the back of my head saying: “are you sure you want to put these chemicals in your eyes?” And my answer was always: “I guess not? :(” But I am excited to say that there are other alternatives out there and they are natural! Happy dance!

Ok seriously. Here is how you can grow your longer, more beautiful lashes naturally. First of all give your lashes a break by skipping the mascara and lash curler every once in a while. Then try one of these homemade eyelash conditioners. Please note that these won’t make your lashes sprout overnight but with consistent use you will reap the benefits and results you are looking for!

Note: I personally prefer using organic, extra virgin, first pressed oils to get all the natural goodness they provide. These can be found at your natural food store.

Castor Oil Eyelash Conditioner

Ingredients:

– Castor Oil or Almond Oil

– Vanilla Extract

– Disposable mascara wands

– Small clean container

Instructions: Purchase a bottle of organic castor oil or organic almond oil and vanilla extract from the grocery store and disposable mascara wands from the beauty supply store. Pour the oil and vanilla extract into the small container (three parts oil to one part vanilla extract) and shake well. Dip your mascara wand into the eyelash conditioner, remove the excess and apply it to your lashes from the root to the tip like you would apply mascara. Do this twice a day on clean lashes. Make sure to clean your wand each time.

Vitamin E Eyelash Conditioner

Ingredients:

– Vitamin E Oil or capsules

– Small clean container

– Cotton Swabs

Instructions: Pick up organic vitamin E oil or capsules from the natural food store. Poor or squeeze a few drops of Vitamin E into the small container – do not touch the oil with your fingertips. Dab cotton swab into the oil and swab onto your lashes from the root to the tip. Do this to both sides of your lashes making sure they are fully coated. Do this twice a day. Use a new cotton swab each time.

Coconut Oil Eyelash Conditioner

Ingredients:

– Coconut Oil

– Extra Virgin Olive Oil

– Vitamin E Oil or capsules

– Small clean container

– Disposable mascara wands or cotton swabs

Pour equal parts of each oils into a small container. Note that coconut oil is solid at room temperature but melts when warmed or mixed with other oils. Dip your mascara wand or cotton swab into the mixture, remove the excess and apply it to the root of your lashes twice a day. Make sure to use the conditioner on clean lashes.

Avoid using your fingers to apply the conditioners to your lashes because they can transfer bacteria into the mixture and also absorb the oils. Mascara wands and cotton swabs are precise and insure that every one of your lashes benefit from the goodness of your homemade eyelash conditioners.
