Joe Fresh presented his SS14 collection at World Master Card Fashion Week. Attending this show for the first time spurred mixed feelings in me because of the recent Bangladesh tragedy. As you probably recall, a garment factory collapsed a few months ago killing over 200 Bangladeshi workers. The factory’s owners were warned of the weak structure of the building but did not heed the warning and forced their employees to come to work on that faithful day. By doing so they knowingly endangered their lives.  The manufacturers whose goods were being produced in that factory are: The Children’s place, Cato and Joe Fresh to only name a few.

Since the incident, little seems to have been done to rectify the situation.

Joseph Mimran was not giving interviews regarding the tragedy during fashion week. His reluctance to address the issue head on is a red flag in my book. This is unfortunate because his designs are wearable and fashionable as you will see below. This is however no longer enough. Fashion brands need to be socially and corporately responsible don’t you think? Looking forward to knowing your thoughts on the subject!
