Donna Karan’s brands have consistently evolved and adapted to the changes of time by embracing new trends, not resisting them. The wild popularity of their twitter account ‘DKNY PR Girl’ is a perfect example of that. Needless to say that very few designers have stood the test of time like Donna Karan has.

paper_mache_artisan_june2012Karan has also shown innovation by putting her success to good use. Last year, we reported that she attended the opening of a Little Haiti Cultural Center exhibition of art, accessories and furnishings produced by artisans in Haiti. The items being sold through her Urban Zen Foundation are beautiful, intricate and most of all they empower an entire community.

The Urban Zen Foundation which was born in 2006, “is currently dedicated to assisting the artisan community of Haiti by creating a sustainable model for commerce that also preserves the rich artistry that resonates in every handcrafted piece. Our three Urban Zen stores dedicate 100% of the profits from the Haitian products to our HOPE HELP & REBUILD HAITI campaign.” In addition to their work in Haiti, they are also committed to empowering children and promoting integrative therapy for hospital patients.

This season, Karan celebrated her 30th anniversary! For this celebratory collection Karan did not choose to solely look back with a retrospective collection but celebrate the city that made her: New York. The fashion show took place on Wall Street in a raw looking space with photographer Steven Sebring’s 360-degree images of Donna Karan – clad body moving in the background. [CHECK IT OUT]
