I’m not one to talk about politics but for the first time in 244 years there is a woman, a woman of color to be exact, who has been elected to the White House.

It’s the representation for me.

As we continue to aspire to break glass ceilings here are 5 ways you can help lift your sisters up to be the best they can be and change the world.

  1. Choose compliments over criticism: we all know how critical we can be of ourselves so why add more fuel to the fire? Instead find something to compliment her on even if it’s just her sweater or her lipstick color.
  2. Express gratitude: snail mail and handwritten cards need to make a comeback. If someone’s been good to you this year, let them know, whether it’s in a letter or via text. I know it will mean the world to her.
  3. Get her favorite coffee and let her know that you’ve noticed how hard she’s been working on her side hustle, job, business or at being a mom.
  4. Support her business or interests: starting a business, side hustle, launching a new product or looking for a job can be daunting even if she’s been doing it for years. Show her that you are in her corner by sending her leads, sharing on social media, buying her products and asking her how you can help.
  5. Plan a day, half a day or an hour around her favorite things and spend quality time with her – make sure you’ve cleared it with her significant other and that she doesn’t need to do anything expect be present and in the moment you’ve curated for her. If she’s an introvert, create the experience for her to enjoy alone! 😉
