“The doctor told me I had 3 weeks left to live…” – Emily Gair, Cancer Survivor (pictured)\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Hearing the doctor say: ” it’s cancer” is one of the most devastating news one could receive but it no longer has to be a death sentence. Over the last fifty years cancer research has come a long way but a lot still needs to be done. Mademoiselle Mtl invited us to a wonderful event last Thursday high in color and excitement benefitting the Canadian Cancer Society<\/a>. The event: “Les Ann\u00c3\u00a9es Folles” (French for The Crazy Years), lived up to its name.<\/p>\n

The night was hosted by two phenomenal guys: Francisco Randez & Maxime Charbonneau. They bantered, made us laugh and kept the ambiance light in spite of the heavy cause we were all gathered to support.<\/p>\n

Emily Gair shared her story kicking the night off on a positive note! “The doctor told me I had 3 weeks left to live but that was 8 years ago<\/em>.” said Gair. You could feel the earnestness in her voice as she shared her testimony. “They also told me I would not be able to have children and I got pregnant just a few weeks after my chemo ended. My daughter is now 7 years old .<\/em>” she continued. The crowd cheered her on\u00c2\u00a0as she fist bumped the air like a true survivor would.<\/p>\n

Touching testimonies, delicious desserts and entertainment, that’s what this event was all about. The entertainment was witty and risqu\u00c3\u00a9 with Gair’s burlesque performance, Studio 88’s swing dancers and Mrs Red Lipstick ‘s magical “quick changes”. It was my first time attending a burlesque show and I must admit I blushed a little. \u00c2\u00a0Rest assured however, the routines were PG and of the utmost class.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>SPECS Models Agency also sponsored the event donating, amongst other things, 10 stunning models who stomped down the runway for three 1920’s inspired fashion shows.<\/p>\n

Meeting so many beautiful and young cancer survivors including TVA’s weather reporter Nad\u00c3\u00a8ge St-Philippe, reminded me that cancer does not discriminate. It is a devastating disease that affects so many families. Whether you are young or old, male or female, you are at risk of getting cancer or knowing someone who will. It touches all of us. So get regular check ups, tell those close to you how much you love them and support this cause<\/a>.<\/p>\n
