New York Fashion Week came and went and I had a blast! It is one of the most anticipated events of the year in fashion and for good reason. People fly into the Big Apple, from all over the world, to see and to be seen. This is what you can expect to see and experience at New York Fashion Week. By the end of this hectic week, I am always incredibly inspired and, let’s be honest, tired! So over the years, I’ve learned to prepare, as much as I can, ahead of time.

Here is how I get myself together for Fashion Week.

1. What I wear

Unless you have a glam squad on hand, preparing your fashion week outfits beforehand is a crucial timesaver. Creativity in the wardrobe department is where I thrive but since I like to dress based on my mood of the day, this tip can be challenging. I coordinate my looks early anyway because I know that the more I plan ahead the more I can accept last minute invites, change my plans and be spontaneous. It also allows me to have more time to create content on the fly. Let us not forget that NYFW doesn’t allow for much sleep which is another reason to plan ahead. I don’t recommend coordinating NYFW worthy looks on 4 hours of sleep. Ever! This is what I wore last season.

2. Skincare

At NYFW putting your best face forward is a must. If your outfits and accessories are bomb, you are bound to be photographed and exposed for the world to see on street style columns, blogs and Instagram feeds. For this you want your skin and makeup to look flawless (well, as much as is humanly possible).

During NYFW, I do my best to simplify my beauty routine to save time. The back to back events and lack of sleep can reek havoc on my skin, however. So I keep the stress breakouts at bay by being thorough in my skincare routine the week leading up to the shows. I make sure to follow this beauty checklist to a T. I also watch what I eat since I have hormonal acne and can get congestion especially on my cheeks and jawline. If time permits, I get a professional facial three days before my first event. Lastly, I make sure to remove my makeup every night. I wear more makeup than usual during NYFW so I double cleanse my face religiously.

3. Stay on top of emails

If there is ever a time to monitor your emails minute by minute, it is during New York Fashion Week. I can’t stress enough how important this is.  PR agencies are on their A-game and continue to send invites all week. Now is not the time to ignore that growing unread messages number because gems could be hiding in the inbox you dread so much. You don’t want to be catching up on emails after fashion week only to realize that you missed an amazing event.

4. Secure the bag

I mean itinerary. Gone are the days of Bryant Park and Lincoln Center, unfortunately. Back then, most of the shows were taking place in one convenient location.  So for each show and event, I insure that I have the correct time, location and directions. There’s nothing worst than being in a cab, stuck in traffic only to realize that there was a mistake in the address.  Believe me, I’ve been there! Thankfully, my cab driver and I caught the mistake early enough and I made it to the venue before the show started. Thank heavens for cab drivers who are committed to the cause!

5. Charge up

This one might seem obvious but I’m including it anyway. Before each day, I make sure I charge all my devices, cameras and backup batteries. I pack extra batteries and power bars so I can charge on the go. Since I need to recharge my body as well and eat a vegan / plant-based diet, I can’t rely on hors d’oeuvres. They rarely cater to my lifestyle and I hate being hungry so I plan ahead by looking up nearby vegan-friendly restaurants and packing snacks.

There you have it. This is how I prepare for New York Fashion Week. I hope you have found these tips helpful. Check out my social media to see what I got into this week. Instagram / Facebook / Twitter / Pinterest
