I stumbled upon a new (to me) shoe store, last summer and it was love at first sight. Here’s how it happened: it was a warm afternoon, I was strolling the streets of Montreal’s hip Plateau Mont-Royal. I was on my way to La Halte 24/7 when a window display caught my eye. The shoes on display were uncannily my style. I didn’t expect to make such a discovery on the Plateau Mont-Royal, no offense.

I had never heard of the brand, L’Intervalle which is French for the interval. I passed the store several times but I didn’t go in because I didn’t want to be tempted to buy shoes that would not fit the Conscious & Chic lifestyle. Yes, I get tempted too.

I eventually gave in but only planed to look at the styles for inspiration. As I was browsing, the salesperson and I got to talking and everything changed. We had a great conversation about shoes, life and all things in between.

During that conversation, I told her about Conscious & Chic and that is when she proceeded to tell me that L’Intervalle was a Montreal-based shoe manufacturer. I thought to myself, “local, that’s good.” Then, she said, “… and all our shoes are made in Spain.” which peeked my interest. “This brand is probably sweatshop-free,” I exclaimed, in my mind. My excitement started to rise. That is when she sealed the deal by saying, “… and all our products are ethically and sustainably produced.” My joy was complete. My steps had led me to shoes that were not only stylish but ethical as well. Oh, and did I mention that they were on sale? I was in heaven.

 THE CONSCIOUS

L’Intervalle taps into the expertise of the small European shoemakers they work with.  They manufacture a wide variety of shoes such as sneakers, mules, boots, sandals and pumps in an ethically sustainable way. Their designs are sometimes quirky, sometimes on trend and always chic!

THE CHIC

Lust-worthy shoes is what you should expect when visiting L’Intervalle’s website and stores. Their shoes are well-priced yet they do not skim on quality or style like run of the mill fast-fashion companies do. Their goal is to bridge the gap between cheap footwear and higher-end designer shoes hence the name L’Intervalle.

During my first visit, I splurged on 5 pairs of shoes. I was lusting after many more but I narrowed it down and used self-control. Included in the haul were four summer sandals and one pair of booties perfect for the cold weather we’ve been having. Truth be told, they have served as my go-to booties all winter long. A uniform of sorts. I traveled with them everywhere and put them through sleet, rain and snow so I can attest to their style and durability.

For your convenience and viewing pleasure, here are nine styles from L’Intervalle’s spring collection which I love.
